5 Skin care tips to control Acne/Pimples.

All we wanted to do as kids was to grow up and do all the things that the adults did. Little did we know about the phase of being a teenager! As if being in a confusing age between a child and an adult is not enough. We are also subjected to hormonal imbalances – the imbalances that ruled most things about us – the crazy rage to mood swings and pimples to broken skin.

If you are fed up of popping painful pimples, it is high time you do something about them. Prevention is the way to go. How do you prevent acne or pimples? Which products or remedies work best?↓

1* Hydrates — in every way possible-:

Every skin expert we spoke to emphasized the importance of hydration. "A lack of water means less radiance and more sag," says Dr. Mona Gohara, a dermatologist in Connecticut. She suggests choosing products (cleansing, moisturizing, and anti-aging) that have hydrating formulas. And, of course, drink around eight glasses of water a day.

2* Cleaning face twice a day-:

Dirt, dust, pollution and excess oil cause your pores to clog leading to acne. Washing your face with the best face wash for pimples becomes imperative for acne prone skin. Best to wash 2 times a day.

3* Feed your skin-:

Most experts agree that certain foods, like chocolate, don't cause pimples. Still, it makes sense to avoid greasy food and junk food and add more fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains to your diet. Dairy products and foods high in processed sugar may trigger acne. Avoid these.

4* Wash Pillow Cover and Towels Regularly-:

Dirty pillow covers and dirty towels aid bacterial growth, leading to breakouts. It is very important to wash pillowcases, bed sheets and towels at regular intervals. It is also a good idea to frequently wash all makeup brushes and sponges to minimize the changes of spreading bacteria.

5* Moisturizing-:

Oily skin results in breakouts, and if your skin is very dry, the body compensates by producing extra oils. Certain acne products might leave your skin dry and coarse. Switch such products with gel-based moisturizers for oily skin or cream-based moisturizers if you have dry skin. If you are about to step out, then use moisturizers with a small amount of SPF to protect the skin from more irritation. Always use a sunscreen to avoid tanning. Acne prone skin is generally more sensitive than the other skin types.

6* Exercise daily-:

Regular exercise is good for your whole body, including your skin. When you exercise, avoid wearing clothing or using exercise equipment that rubs your skin and may cause irritation. Shower or bathe right after exercise.

7* Anti-Pollution Products-:

Air pollution and ozone pollution constantly expose your skin to free radicals which break down the natural oils leaving you susceptible to acne growth. Therefore, using anti-pollution skincare products help in fighting acne and keeping your skin clear.

8* Avoid Touching the Face-:

Keep your hands away from the skin. Do not rest the chin or cheeks on your hands or dirty surfaces, as this will cause bacteria to spread. Do not pop, prick or squeeze a pimple that would further spread the infection and cause scarring. Make it a habit to wash your hands with an anti-bacterial soap before touching the facial skin. Moreover, try and keep your hair away from the face.

9* Good Diet-:

Scientists believe that junk foods alone cannot directly cause breakouts in the skin. It is very important that you follow a good diet, by taking at least five portions of whole grain, vegetables, and fruits every day. A healthy body gives a better skin. This diet would definitely reflect on your skin just within a week.

10* Eating the right carbs-:

A diet full of refined carbs like white bread, pizzas, chips, pastas etc, leads to an increase in the sugar levels and hence causes acnes. Eating complex carbs like whole grains and fruits reduces pimples on face.

11* Use Salicylic Acid-:

Similar to benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid helps in getting rid of dead skin cells and promote new skin growth. As a result, skin dries of near your acne, but the dryness slows down with the regeneration of your skin. Try using this acid in cleansers and spot treatments every day on acne prone areas.

12* Sulfur – A Great Acne Killer-:

Sulfur is known as a great acne killer. Choose cleansers and other products containing sulfur to clear your breakouts by reducing the oil production in the skin.

13* Lifestyle changes-:

Drinking lots of water and exercising regularly helps in flushing out toxins from the body by opening the clogged pores. Also, avoid eating spicy food as it might increase your skin’s pH level, thereby triggering acne growth.

14* Use of Alcohol Free products-:

Products that contain harmful alcohol, like ethanol, strip off skin’s natural oils, compelling the oily skin to compensate for the oil lost by producing more oil and leading to clogged pores and breakouts. Thus, use of alcohol free products restores skin’s healthy balance.

15* Clean Your Gadgets-:

Always clean the items that touch your face – mobile phone, earphones and the like. They can harbor bacteria.
